2025: Our Achievements

2025 has been another tremendously busy year for the NESPF. The Fund has undertaken several large-scale projects while continuing to fulfil its day-to-day obligations. The Fund has also achieved award success, being shortlisted for a multitude of industry awards and more recently winning three LGC Investment Awards.

Digital Developments

The NESPF was the first Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) pension fund to go-live with new-look member portal, My Pension+ with other funds looking to follow its lead.

During 2025, the Fund continued to work on the development of outstanding functionality, with feature parity the key driver.

A main area of development throughout 2025 has been online processing, which will allow members to complete forms and acknowledge documents digitally. This will improve efficiency and reduce reliance on paper-based communication.

As a frontrunner in implementing the new technology on offer, NESPF has continued to share its experience of the system with others with many funds reaching out to the NESPF for support with their own implementation during 2025.

Investments

2025 saw the NESPF become one of the first UK institutional investors to implement pass-through voting on over £1 billion of passive equity holdings.

This is a significant breakthrough in responsible investment, enabling us to vote consistently and transparently on key issues such as climate change, executive pay, board diversity, and human rights across the board in all our listed equity holdings.

Administration

The NESPF has undertaken several projects throughout the course of 2025 which have had a positive impact on its operational efficiency.

A prominent administrative challenge which the Fund has faced during 2025 has been the requirement for Funds to implement McCloud remedy data into member records. In response to guidance on the McCloud remedy and benefit statement communications, we developed bespoke reports identifying 29 distinct member categories, allowing us to deliver tailored messaging to members. This has ensured that members have received accurate pension information and correct payments.

Another challenging aspect of LGPS administration is the process of aggregation, or combining pension records when a member re-joins the scheme. 2025 saw teams within the NESPF collaborate to design a new approach to dealing with these cases, using automation and digital tools to aid this process.

Staffing

The NESPF saw its staffing levels grow during 2025, with a number of modern apprentices also joining the Fund. The NESPF is passionate about encouraging knowledge sharing by utilising cross-functional project teams to undertake assignments, and looks forward to continuing to harness staff collaboration for further developments during 2026.
