The Fund

The North East Scotland Pension Fund is part of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). With an asset value of £4.4bn and over 68,000 members, it is one of the largest Funds in Scotland.

The Fund provides a pension for employees of:

  • Aberdeen City Council
  • Aberdeenshire Council
  • Moray Council
  • and around 50 other public or charitable bodies in the North East of Scotland.

It also provides a pension for elected Councillors.

Teachers are not able to join the LGPS as they have their own pension arrangements. Likewise operational staff in Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue service have their own pension schemes. Employers should tell their staff what pension scheme they can join or belong to.

Who Runs the Fund

Whilst day to day work is carried out by fully trained pension staff, overall responsibility for the North East Scotland Pension Fund has been delegated to the Fund's Pensions Committee. The Committee carries out a role similar to that of trustees and is the key decision maker for all matters regarding administration and investment management.
